My 2014 VW Jetta has very few "fancy electronics" - just an integrated SiriusXM radio (which I love), and the basic stuff like power windows/doors. Maybe it has Bluetooth too, but I haven't bothered trying to use it. Pretty sure it doesn't, though.
When I bought the car, they had another Jetta on the (used) lot which was one step up, and had more of those fancy things. It was priced around the same, but in a color I didn't like, so I opted for the "lesser" model. If I actually wanted those extras, obviously color wouldn't have been the determining factor... but since I knew I'd never even use the added features, I went with the prettier one instead.
Sounds good, I've never driven a VW. Currently I own a 2017 Honda Civic EX-T, it's a mid trim one. I like the tech on it, but I just hope it's reliable long term. When the blinker is on, there's a camera built into the side mirror, so I can see what's in the blind spot on the screen. XM radio is great, and heated seats since it's cold here. One complaint is a lot of new cars are lower and have a fast back design. It's harder to get in and out of. Everyone's trying to have the European, Audi design. The new Malibu, Accord, Civic, Camry, most modern sedans.
Christmas vacation used a normal Taurus wagon, I was referring to the Wally World one from ‘83.
That was a Ford Mercury Colony Park in the national lampoons Vacation. So you must be young if you never seen Vacation with Chevy Chase it was the very first vacation movie made. And you are right it was a Tarus or a sable wagon in Christmas vacation.
I noticed the guy didn't mention the worst offender of all, those God awful, super bright headlights, that do nothing but blind people.
I think the government , in the interest of public safety,should make a law banning them, and mandate that those on vehicles presently, must be removed.
For years and years many of us relied on the good old sealbeams, and there were no complaints.
I didn't watch the whole thing, but I agree the infotainment stuff is getting a bit too much. It's fun at first, but I bet will quickly get outdated. I liked it better when cars just had bluetooth and maybe a NAV system, input jack or two and that's it. Enough for me to be happy. Maybe satellite radio if I found it had something I wanted to listen to.
I have no need for Wi-Fi hot spots and internet connectivity either, but that's just my opinion. If I had a car with it, I certainly wouldn't pay for it after it expired. I just see it as a way to make more money. I have a smartphone, I don't need internet in the car too.
Also not a big fan of the iPad like display that looks like it's stuck to the dashboard, ie Toyotas and others.
I think the infotainment and all is just part of the disposable mentality too. Will today's cars last 15-20 years with all of these features and computers being outdated and/or possible failing by then?
Most people I know of that buy cars that have all of these features tend to trade em off as soon as the lease is up / trade in before they have any problems, or they keep em "until the wheels fall off" and buy another like it.
I'm buying a new car soon and wondering how much of this I want/need.
At my old job working for the Thrifty Group; I ran across a Volvo All Road that had internet, or XC70 or something and I played with it some, and using it wasn't that easy and it was slow. Last thing we need on the road is some volvo owner driving down the street or expressway, masturbating to a pornhub video, becuase his wife won't touch him.
He missed USELESS LED accents all over everywhere. From maybe not that bad looking to complete moronic ones, like that bracket like one on new pick up trucks. Not sure, Ford or Chevy. Tasteless quick slap on job. Just because everyone has them. Or new Porsche with those 4 tiny LED corner lights square. Looks borrowed from Nissan Versa and slapped onto 120K car.

No, Corvettes had eHandles when Tesla was still building his innovative unique, special ev sports car, from whatever rolling chassis he could get from Lotus. Which did not have eHandles, because Lotus are "cheap". I think the fake vents constitute useless accents. The LED ones are usually the answer to the stupid DRL requirements or a superfluous "fog or driving" light that is only there to signify a vehicles high trim or upscaleness, same with stupid faux vents and hood scoops. It's not just the Stinger with those, Buicks have them too, and at a time(like the 50s) the vents worked and meant something, like a straight six buick had three on each side and a v8 had four. The reason you see the amber leds in fseries grilles especially the Raptor is because they are so damn big, they require clearance lights. Which brings me to trucks are too big. I think all the bullcrap in cars helps there's and other vehicles growth in girth. I remember when car had nonintruding near flat door panels, like my 91 Blazer, 88 Bronco, 77 K10, and hell, even my 08 cvpi. Nowadays you open a door and it's like twelve inches thick, most of it intruding into the cabin. The Taurus felt as cramped as the Mirage and Lancer.

I believe the big part of the problem with these blinding headlights are that they aren’t being properly aligned either at the factory or dealership prior to sale. Another issue is vehicles ride height being changed (larger rims/tires and or lift kits) thus changing the aim of the headlights.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't those added (to "silent" hybrid/electric cars) to give warning to people who are hard of hearing? If so, that's an important safety feature - and you probably shouldn't be disabling it. If you do, it's possible you'd be held liable in an accident with someone who's hard of hearing. Even those of us with good ears can't always hear you coming, and might be caught off-guard if you're turning a blind corner or something. I'd suggest leaving those alone.
No. Most EVs or Hybrids don't make any noise, or any loud noticable noise. That has to do with people complaining about road noise, and wind noise, tire noise, exhaust drone, because the fanciest of cars have always been relatively quiet inside and shutting the door came with a pleasing thunk versus the clatter you'd get with a wooden screendoor. Bbbbuuuutttttttt.....*crazy stereotypical white woman cocked head, chesire grin face* these same people want to hear the engine noise, they want to hear their horsepower, to channel their inner Jeremy Clarkson; "Ppppooooowwwweerrrrr!!!!!" So they pump fake engine and exhaust noise in the cabin, which also lets cars with lesser engines sound bad ass. So when you see somebody driving beside you and they have a big smile on their face on acceleration and you hear the truth that is the window a/c unit that is their engine set to medium, they hear the glorious sound of horrible movie magic engine dub-over noise. A great example of this is Ghost Rider; the Riders transformed motorcycle is powered by an 80cc dirtbike engine sat in a chopper frame. Or the Gone In Sixty Seconds movie with the same actor; Eleanors engine sound was from, I believe a dodge caravan in some scenes and a modded chevy 455 or something in others.
I actually hate how quiet EVs and hybrids are, a high torque electric motor has a wonderful sound in my opinion. If you've ever seen a homebuilt electric conversion(especially ev drag cars), or heard your dryer on spin cycle. I don't think any production car has outward noises. I say at least let outbound and inbound engine noises be customizable. Why shouldn't my BMW(yes they do fake engine noises) or my Nissan Leaf not sound like a TIE Fighter, if it's going to be fake and we're stuck with it, at least it can be fun. *hops in Prius and chugs away like a steam locomotive*
