It depends a lot on the local market but, in general, absolutely. Like I said I bought my brand new 2018 F-150 v8,fx4,xlt for $33,200k + tax early last year. Now I'm in Texas, which is generally regarded as one of the best areas to make a deal on a pickup, so you might not be able to get the same pricing but the sticker price on my truck was > $48k. I know I'm just some guy on the internet but those are real numbers and an example of the kinds of deals that are out there. The manufacturer msrp is complete fiction, across all the brands.

The best way to find a deal is to visit an active message forum for the specific model you're interested in. They almost always have a thread dedicated to pricing, negotiating, incentives, etc. where you can get expert advice. I read the whole 700 page thread on the F150forums before I started shopping.

Because nobody is buying XLT's
And Texas has some really good incentives going right now.

It's pretty much standard in New England to get $10k off a truck. But where I am, in the SE US, there are no incentives currently. Anything you get from the dealer is going to be a pittance in comparison.

Dodge transmissions don't last.

Once I moved to the hills I saw MANY examples.... Enough that I'll never buy one.

Just stay away from 6.0/6.4 models.

Wow I think I may have to take a look at buying new. The new model truck I like is the Silverado 1500 Custom Trail Boss. I just did a quick search to see what local dealers are offering and was pretty surprised to see them down to $35,276 from the $44,095 MSRP with 0% for 72 months.

If you go with the 1500, the GM will get better mileage , if that matters. They are both pretty good trucks, but I think the new RAM rides better and the interior is nicer (at least at the upper trim levels. )

I work as a designer for GM and did some work on the latest truck, and bought a 2019 Ram.

If you go 2500 gas... go with the GM product.
If you go with a diesel, go with Ram. Although the 2019 Ram is the older gen cab, not the new one. the 2020's will get the new cab I think.

The Trail Boss is a poor choice if you plan on towing a travel trailer that accommodates five people. Check the door jamb sticker to see what the payload capacity is. It will be pretty low. It will also have a lower tow capacity than the rest of the Chevy lineup. You should be looking at a truck that has a max tow package.

This. So long as he is in the market for new, he shouldn't run into this problem.
