So, if the aunt is still alive, call the aunt and say "Remember that Nissan...? It's in your name, I can't title it or legally drive it, so I'm abandoning it. It's located at "X" if you want to deal with it...." The car isn't titled or registered in his name. It's not his problem.

That should do it. Park it in her driveway or out front to make it easy for her.
Go to Honest Al's carlot sometime when Al is not busy, and ask him for advice. He's seen them all. What he suggests may not be exactly legal, but it will work -- your call. I've gotten tips like this several times, Al will think if you as a kindred spirit and probably help you. Might even offer to buy the car from you on the spot.
Im not certain, but I believe the charities actually get the title and all the docs, (in the name of the person they give it to), I dont think they sell the cars outright, they give them to needy people in the area.
Needy people in the area still can't drive them without papers and charities wouldn't have POA over the people who legally own(ed) the cars or their estates.
