Hello im possibly going to buy this 1991 Plumouth Acclaim but when i did a carfax report nothing shows up for sales history, mileage or anything except the plant it was made and the details of the car. What is going on? Was it stolen? The seller apparently owned it all these years. Very weird
You MIGHT be able to go the manufacturer's website and get the history of service provided ONLY by the dealers themselves. For instance, if I take my Chevy to any Chevy dealer in the country for service, that service is recorded in Chevy's system. Most, if not all, of that info is also available to the consumer. It MIGHT only be available to the vehicle owner, but it could also be available to others. You'll have to check.

Carfax reports only what has been reported to Carfax. For instance, the 2016 Frontier that I recently purchased and returned to Carvana was "accident-free" despite replacement hood, fenders, radiator, core support, grill, bumper, and shoddy frame welds.

Yes but what I was wondering is that I drive a 1994 Acura legend and that has sales records on carfax dating back to August 1994 when it was first bought. I just think its weird there is no information on this model at all. Not even inspection records or dmv stuff.
As stated, information on CarFax is reported to CarFax, it's not a full automobile history report. If a vehicle was sold and the dealer at that time was not reporting to CarFax, or the DMV was not allowing CarFax all access to their records, or........ Numerous things on a 1991 car could have been in play over the years that resulted in no data on CarFax. Of course you could have a bogus VIN that's not on file as you entered it into their system.

I have had several vehicles that would never show up on Carfax. They only have data on 1981 and newer cars, so classics are not included. The reports they gat are mostly from DMVs, dealers and insurance companies. If the owner does their own work or takes it to an independent shop, and have no insurance claims, the only data would be the original sale and any subsequent sales. In your case, it may be that it just got dropped, or was never sent in by the original dealer.
