I hear you. I've built 3 prelude engines and they cost more than any V8 from Detroit !!! The best prelude engine I built made 556hp on the dyno, went into a ultra light civic hatchback that was really just a fiberglass shell over chrome moly tubing. I think with the 300 lb driver it only weighed 1600 lbs.
It did amaze me the engine stayed together at 64lbs of turbo boost!
Can't say the same for the head gasket...

THE OTHER THINGS THAT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL? All toyotas, lexus, infinity, acura, hondas, kias, nissans and the idiots who drive these 4 tired acts of treason....
So which way is it? In one post you say imports should be illegal. In another you're building high horsepower engines for them with 64 lbs boost?

I have to laugh a bit; sure some of these tuners are putting big coin in their cars to go fast. Watch 'pass time' or any other car show heavy on muscle--most of those old school rigs aren't running on low budget powertrains either. One of the main reasons the imports are popular is because they are readily available to kids. Building a Honda wouldn't be my first choice ( being in my later 40's, i've spent time in muscle and those are my preference ); but there is nothing wrong when a car is done correctly. Do some of them run 'nos', you bet. But at least from my experiences back home with the cars built and ran thru the one dyno shop-- it isnt 'nos' that builds that power, its motor swaps and builds, along with turbos. Then tune them right, and you have a fast ride. Same logic as the old days--high HP, in a lighter body. Nowadays it's 400hp in a civic hatchback; in my day I ran a v8 pinto. Really, what is the difference?? Both took a lot of hard work, time, and $$ to build.
Now since i've moved so SC, where Mustangs are much more of a year round driver; I see a lot more of them built then i do imports ( the opposite of back home in WI ) so maybe it's a regional thing as well.
Wanna rip the kids with the wings and fart cans--no problem. But i've seen plenty of 'stangs with bad body kits, crappy exhaust, and a driver with more attitude then horsepower.

I completely agree. I can respect any well built and upgraded vehicle. Honda's aren’t really my thing but I've seen some fast ones. Every show car or tuner vehicle you see on TV has nitrous because its the "cool thing" to have. I don't know of anyone who uses the stuff and it appears to be a "for show" item. Most show cars have never ran down a track and aside from having the nitrous hooked up so you can display the pretty little bottle they probably have never actually used it. I’m a big fan of forced induction (turbo/super) whether its on a I4, V6, V8, or a V12 and any well built boosted vehicle is deserving of my attention. I’ve seen some ridiculous turbo 4’s as well as boosted LSx V8’s. Body kits aren’t my thing because most of them ruin the lines of the car they’re installed on.

I agree with on this one. Forced induction can really surprise your opponent. I had a 1989 Ford Probe turbo that was basically stock, but would outrun (or at least keep up with) Ls1 camaro's, mid 90's LT1 corvettes, Nissan 350z's, Infiniti g35's, Acura RSX type S's, Mustang Gt's etc. These are are few of the cars that I embarrassed a few years back. One of the funniest was in Chandler AZ of the 101 on ramp. A brand new 2006 Infiniti G35 pulled up in the suicide lane. I revved it up at him, and he laughed. I will admit I not blow him away, but still he had to get behind my Probe that I only paid $800 for LOL. By the way, the only mods I did was a zombie chip that raised the boost to 16 pounds, a cone air filter, and a cherry bomb muffler. In other words, stock engine, transmission, and turbo. I really miss that car, and now they are so rare, that is hard to find one. Plus, I got my DUI in that car for outrunning a Civic with a B16, and getting caught going over 100mph. Realistically, this is why I drive a slow Ford Escort anymore. I have a lead foot so I am better off this way if I want to keep my license.

So no one thinks I am an idiot, I will post a few videos of the 1989-1992 Ford Probe Turbo. They were detuned from the factory, because they were quite faster than the Mustang 5.0 of the time. Ford just could not have that...

The turbo 4 in the probe was the same drivetrain as the Mazda mx6; and was way under-rated. Too much torque steer and acceleration for "145 hp". Of course then came out the Eclipse turbos, the VW Corrado, etc and the little 4-banger hp wars were on!

Side note on the nos: i remember seeing an episode on pinks where the kid had one in back of his honda; not until the end of the last race was it told--it was fake, just on there for negotiations.... about the only "cool" moment i've seen on that show

back in the day when I sold Mitsus and Mazdas at same dealership in WI ( early 90's ) one of my demos was an Eclipse GSX. I used to enjoy beating the local college kids in their stang GT's and 'birds. They were full of the "I gotta hot rod" attitude and zero actual knowledge of how to launch a car. Where as my 195hp and awd made it quite easy...... then we got in the first gen 3000 gt vr4, and we had to fight to get the test drives...
only thing though, driving a fast awd car ( i'm sure more so in the evos and subies now ) was a much different feeling then the hi output v8's I grew up with. No wheel spin, no carb lag, just mash the peddle and away you went. Almost took the fun out of it ( for those who consider kicking the arse end out in second gear "fun" !! )

It's a different type of mentality. AWD allows for some amazing grip driving and pulling a high g load into a corner is certainly an experience. I won't say breaking the rear loose isn't fun its certainly not the most efficient way to drive. Some people just like sitting at a stop and being able to smoke the rears but beyond scratching that immature itch many of us car guys have inside it doesn’t do much else. My 300ZX could easily break the rears (and chirp through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd with grippy tires) and I’ve done quite a few donuts in it but I haven’t been nearly as abusive on my G35. I'd like to think that I've grown up but I'm probably just afraid to break something.
