A good standard feature would be automatic start, I have in on my Yukon and love it during the summer. It's great when it's 110F outside and while you're walking toward your vehicle, you can start it up and it cools the interior down considerably.
Heated side mirrors. Even if you don't live somewhere that gets ice/snow, you're bound to encounter condensation on the mirrors at some point. I can't understand why cruise control is standard in so many cars, while heated mirrors are not. Actually now that i think about it, a telescoping wheel and adjustable pedals would also be more relevant than cruise control. I'm not short, but i have a longer torso and shorter legs, so it can be difficult to find the right adjustment behind the wheel.
Little luxury accessories are one thing but necessities are another. I would really like to see tilt/telescopic steering wheels in all vehicles. Many have tilt but not telescopic and sliding the seat forward/back only fixes steering wheel distance OR pedal distance, but not both. This can be done mechanically and thus for a relatively low expense.
Also another thing is that seats should, at their most basic level, not only be able to recline and slide forward but should also be able to move vertically. I have seen the vertical adjustment as a mechanical system on a few cars so such a thing CAN be done cheaply.
A device that limits speed according to what road you are on. A device that will block any cell phones near by and an remote engine cut off that will stop your car when you have no insurance..great ideas
I like the automatic headlights. Starts to get dark and the headlights automatically turn on. Starts to get bright and they turn off.
I'd also like one that would turn on your headlights when you turn on your wipers.
I can see that you have never had some freaking weirdo follow you in a car before. I can recall a time not *that* long ago, when some mental case was trying to follow me home to see where I lived. If I had not been able to pull into an alleyway and turn my lights off, I could not have eluded him. All components of a car need to be under the CONTROL of the operator, imho.

I agree 100%. Fortunately I have the ability to switch on or off my twilight sentinel (which controls the lights automatically), many cars have this. Thats how automatic lights SHOULD work. However I don't see why such a thing should be incorporated as a standard feature. How inconvenient can it be to just switch them on?
The last thing we need is more standard equipment. All it does is add to the price and increase the weight of the car. The car companies are forced to cut other areas to try to keep costs down. (notice the quality of tires on newer cars compared to cars that came out 10 years ago. Also interior plastics).
I wish I could pick & chose everything. I do not want to pay extra for airbags, anti lock brakes, traction control (which I believe is going to be mandatory soon) etc. Sadly the list is going to increase and increase.
