I had a friend who recently got a flat tire in the parking lot of the N.O. airport, and she had a hard time getting help from anyone. She's looking into getting either OnStar or AAA. Anyone have any opinions on the pros/cons of each ?
I have On Star and HAD AAA...problem with AAA was the 2 hour wait before anyone came.....On Star was pretty much immediate...that was MY experience...Go with On Star!!
OnStar is part of the cars internal system whereas AAA has to be reached by a phone call. If your in a wreck and airbags deploy the car automatically contacts OnStar. With the GPS builtin they know exactly where you are w/o you having to communicate with the operator. I say OnStar. I have it on two of my vehicles and thankfully have never had to use it.
My thoughts would be that Onstar emergencies could happen anywhere and I think it should work because it is in communication with satellite services. A cell phone calling AAA from a location that is out of range and no cell sights nearby could be worthless? This would be something for those who travel in very rural areas of the country to think about.
OnStar sounds good, but we have AAA.We only used it once in 5 years my husband locked the door accidently with the car running, they had a locksmith out to us within 15 minutes or so.
Also AAA you get pretty decent discounts on hotels so I can't complain.I think it cost us about $60 a year??? My renewel will be coming up in a month or so but I feel its a good deal for cheap.

I didn't like AAA, when I called them and said, "My name is dukester, and I am an alcoholic", all they wanted to talk about was my car and if I had any problems with it. They didn't even care about my problem
I keep our vehicles in proper mechanical condition so that I've never had a breakdown. And both my wife and I can change tires.
AAA has, for many years, been a detriment to highway safety by pushing anti-truck laws and other policies that sound good to their car-driving members but have, instead, made our highways less safe. (Truck lane restrictions, split speed limits and more...)
As for ONstar, I have a cell phone. And I'm concerned about the capability of monitoring in-car conversations and other data without the owner knowing it.
