You're not the first person that i've heard mention this. I just don't get it. In the dozen or so times that i've gassed up in Jersey, i've NEVER had an attendant try to stop me.
You can actually be fined in NJ for pumping your own gas. It has been a huge debate for yrs! I believe Oregon is the one and only state that requires an attendant. I'm sure you'll fine lots of info on it if you google it.

Sorry I am confused. You say you can be fined in NJ without an attendant, but then you say Oregon is the only state that requires an attendant
That's not fair...In BOTH NJ and OR, truckers have to pump their own fuel. Sigh...
That's because you are Professionals, the rest of the population is too damn stupid to know that gasoline running over their shoes is a bad thing when they just squeeze the handle and aim it at the vehicle because they cannot find the gas cap.
I took a trip to Virginia from NJ last year and I couldn't figure out why the gas nozzle wouldn't fit in my tank. I looked back and noticed it was diesel! If the nozzle fit in my tank I would have filled my tank with diesel
There's a reason why they don't let people in NJ pump there own gas.
I can see where somebody could grab the wrong nozzle, but you would NOT get any diesel unless you pushed the button to turn on the diesel pump. You DID push one of the GAS buttons, didn't you?
yeah, and that means that it should ring a little bell when the button states DIESEL eh ?
