i have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee and the break light it out. but only the break light and only when the headlights are on. when i break the whole drivers side tail light goes out and no break light comes on. When i am just driving normal it is fine and it is fine both driving and breaking when the headlights are off. sounds like wiring to me but hell i know less then nothing about it so any advice on how to or where to rather get that fixed?

could be a problem with the headlight switch, the brake light switch, or a short.. you will need someone very knowledgeable.. dealer might find it the quickest but you will probably pay at least a couple hundred.

I know exactly what is wrong with it. That is a common problem with those particular vehicles. All you have to do is clean the bulb contacts and it will fix the problems. They are prone to corrosion is all. There is no need to take it to a mechanic for this.

so what do i do? just take off the tail light cover remove the bulbs and clean? that sounds simple enough
and i started to think the same thing because i have noticed it a ton lately with that model car on the road

Yep, I know because the exact same thing happened on my Ford Escort. I researched it, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee constantly came up in my google search.

My stepson has one and he's bought two tail lamps - he's been told the harness is intergrated in the housing, and he has to replace the assembly.

That might be, but if he is clever he might clean up things. I thyink the wiring is plig n play for trailer wiring too, unless these are too early, so the harness would be short for each unit.

I can weld plastic with plastic rod and a lot welding tip on my torches. A bit primitive, but I don't do it much. Before that I used bread bags to weld plastic. You just twist up a bread bag tight and light it on fire. it makes a odd noise a ziiiiit ziiiittt ziiiiit as the drops come off.

Lots of cars did this... most air cooled VW, many volvo mostly with sigs mounted on the bumper (that wasn't the smartest place to put sigs and parking lamps in the first place but they did it.)

There is a bad ground. Might be yank the unit clean it up inside and out counting the mount hole and the studs/bolts and put it back on and see if it's fixed, with out spending a dime. Bad grounds cancell one another out and make things act screwy.
