I was wondering what a road border crossing between two countries with opposing traffic might look like
Does left-hand traffic somehow affect the brain differently? Interestingly many places where there is left-hand traffic are islands. At least that eliminates the border crossing issue
I am from a right-hand traffic country, and when I moved to Britain I felt insecure when leaving the house. And I don't even drive a car. Has anyone tried driving in a country where traffic is the 'wrong' way around, for instance on vacation? Is it dangerous? After all, driving is largely based on automatisms, especially with experienced drivers.
USA driver (Right side) I went to a Brit island where they drive on the Wrong side . Anytime someone sent shivers up my spine I dodge Right, which was wrong.
As a foreign car tech I got to drive Brit cars set up to be there, but here in the USA. That took some getting used to, but a Bently is big enough people will get out of the way if you screech loud enough!
On vacations, I've driven in Australia, and all over the British Isles on one three-week driving trip. I adjusted very quickly, driving away from Gatwick Airport in London.
Only one time, one morning, pulling out of the parking lot of a motel in Glasgow, perhaps not enough coffee, I turned right into oncoming traffic. It never happened again.
In many ways, I found it easier to drive on the left.
The biggest dangers in left-drive countries are walking. I had many close calls in those countries as I'm a notorious jay-walker. Distracted, with so many new things to see, you step off the curb, and if you don't look to your right, instead of looking left, it could be an easy death.
So, are Brits' left arms stronger and more precisely working because they shift gears on the other side?
