First, let everybody out of prison in the United States.

Second, lock everybody who voted for Republicans and Democrats into prison for life, with no food, water, or medicine. All Republicrats and Demopubs - i.e. everyone who voted for them - is reponsible for the coming hyperinflation, devastating climate change, and starvation due to dwindling oil. They had so many chances to elect a true proud patriotic liberal progressive leader: Ralph Nader. They don't deserve to live or to have any quality of life.

Third: to all those who voted for Ralph Nader or Socialists or Greens each year, outlaw the production and import of ALL gas-powered cars IMMEDIATELY, and provide them with jobs making electric-only vehicles and an infrastructure built on solar and wind farms.

Fourth: outlaw MEAT. The unnecessary breeding and torture and murder of animals for food
consumes (and, since meat is unnecessary, therefore wastes) half the oil that goes into agriculture.

Fifth: mandate vasectomies for males, to reduce out-of-control human overpopulation.

Sixth: outlaw coal-powered electric-generating plants and natural gas fractionating.
Mandate geothermal only for houses for heating and cooling. Mandate only solar and wind farms.

Seventh: legalize marijuana / hemp and put everyone into prison for life who opposed freedom of choice
of what non-animal substances one puts into one's body.

THAT is what you do - ON TOP of all the advanced technological research.
The benefits from such tough laws would vastly outweigh any of the trivial insignificant "hardships" such laws would cause. And shoot any protestors who would complain.

Where is the money and electricity to come from for millions of electric cars?

Well, not enough people anyway it seems... either that or a good majority of the people (such as myself) do really want one but simply can't afford the somewhat high asking prices. Bring the average price down to around $22,000 and I would totally buy one.

Two things will make the Chevy Volt and the Nissan Leaf more viable - lowered cost of the vehicles and higher cost of gasoline.

I don't know about the Leaf, but the Volt was put together mostly from parts that GM had lying around. GM engineers are already looking at ways to improve the powertrain from a price standpoint and there's a lot of places where they can save...a little here and a little there eventually adds up.

As for the cost of gasoline rising, I think that's a given. In February, gas cost under $3.00 per gallon where I live. Here in the first week of March it's up to $3.60.

Anyone want to venture a guess as to sales figures for the Volt and the Leaf when gas prices hit $5.00 per gallon (or even $6.00) this summer?

If you have not seen the documentary "Who Killed the Electric Car?" then I suggest taking a look. We could have probably already had millions of electric cars on the road by now, if the oil industry, the auto industry, and their political bedfellows (seems like mostly Republicans, but Democrats are guilty too) had not worked so hard to kill the concept.

And if you think that electric cars simply didn't catch on because consumers were not interested, then you have to ask yourself why the automakers were so determined to take the cars away and crush them, rather than let people drive them for as long as they could.

Although it seems that times have changed, and maybe now the auto industry is more favorable to the idea of electric cars, I think the points made in the documentary are still important to think about. The auto industry makes a LOT of money from car parts - but electric cars have relatively fewer parts, and generally require less maintenance. Something tells me they will find some way to make sure that electric cars are far, far, far less reliable than they could be (I think this might be a major reason that they wanted to take the cars away from people and crush them, rather than letting them live out their natural life on the road. People might then see how good the cars can be, and then they might notice that the new electric cars are suspiciously less reliable by comparison.)

I want an electric car, but I am waiting for a luxury version. Kind of hard to go from driving lux vehicle to a Chevy Volt. I am waiting until next year for:
Model S | Tesla Motors

Well, I'm glad you aren't in charge. Could you please declare your wacky agenda somewhere further away from me? Your marijuana smoke is making my cheesteak sandwich taste funny.
