My wife and I just bought our first house and will probably spend the next few months running around town buying stuff to fill it up. Unfortunately, we don't have a pickup truck at this point (though we do need a 2nd car and are considering it)

One of my friends suggested that I look into getting a trailer hitch installed, and buying a small 4-foot by 4-foot (approximately) trailer. I had never thought about this, but figure since I wouldn't really be hauling heavy items, just large items, it might be a good idea.

I'd probably need it to haul, at one point or another, appliances, a table, a couch, some mulch for the yard, a small tree, and maybe a mattress or two. I figure these probably wouldn't weigh any more than a bunch of fat people sitting in the passenger seats, but wanted to see what others thought.

Thanks in advance!

I would pick up a 2WD 1987-96 F150 they are cheap to buy and throw some basic insurance on for those few months then you can sell it what you paid for it after you are done with it. and the have added benfit of not putting wear and tear on your car.

With whatever you decide to do, remember with a small trailer like that they take a little getting used to in backing up. Make sure you go to a empty parking lot to practice before you cream some poor saps vehicle at Lowe's or something!LOL......

Bah, forgot the most important part of my post!

I have a 2000 Accord, 4 cylinder.

We are going to buy a new car in the next few weeks though, so this question would be pertinent to any new car we purchased also. I'd get a truck, but we have kids in car seats, so it would have to be a double cab, and those are generally out of our price range

Go with a Reese hitch. I would go with a class II but for very light duty stuff a class I would work. Look at the link I gave ya for your application. PS Reese hitches are awesome!

the thing about the truck is you could use it for trade on your new car after you are done needing it and keep your current car for kid hauling duty.
