Lets bear in mind that it took 5 hours after this plane was missing did the airlines post it. That is truly alarming but it is consistent with the Malaysian Airlines handing of the information. Once again, there is a plane gone. No contact, no cells phone no transponders.
There was contact prior to the crash.

How do they know it went through severe turbulence unless reported? It's not something you can map out unless another pilot delivers a Pilot Report (PIREP) on the flight conditions. The presence of convective activity obviously could be observed via radar...but that's about it.

Not to mention severe turbulence in and of itself is not life threatening. I think the media is overplaying the bad weather angle.

2014 Proves a Grim Year in Malaysian Aviation - The New York Times

What a terrible year for that country. What are the odds?

They are also having massive monsoons and flooding currently in Malaysia, too.

Lol, I love how these officials are like "okay folks, the plane's at the bottom of the sea, we can all go home now! Mystery solved!" As if there are dozens of perfectly intact aircraft lying on the ocean floor without a shred of debris to be found...

Is it just Keystone Kops in these countries or is there a massive cover-up going on?

I agree. Very strange part of the world. Their response. It's at the bottom of the sea. Really. Just where else is it going to be by now. I wonder how many people are cancelling, their reservations, on flights over there. I know I would.

My take on AirAsia8501 - flying across the intertropical convergence zone they encountered a mesoscale thunderstorm with massive moisture content. At that altitude all that moisture was becoming ice and the ice overwhelmed and shutdown both engines. The report says they tried to climb over the convective activity instead of circumnavigate it. CB tops must have been over 40,000 feet well over their max altitude capability. God bless the souls of the crew and passengers.

On the CBS Morning Show it was reported that there are reports of debris and oil slicks in the general area where the plane disappeared but nothing has been confirmed yet.
