I'm going home for the weekend and am looking for the most optimal route out of Baltimore at around 4 pm. The goal is to get to 70W. I've heard that going 695 to get there is a nightmare at that time. Any suggestions on other ways to get out of the city?(I'll be coming from the downtown area)

When I go west at that time, I go out Gwynns Falls Parkway, Windsor Mill, to Forest Park, etc and hook up directly to 70. It's a little tricky but most of it is through parks and traffic is never bad. Do a Mapquest for it to show which way to go.

That is a very good suggestion. Rt. 40 (which runs along Franklin Street, then 1.5 miles of unnamed expressway, then back on Franklin, then jogs to Edmondson Ave) to Cooks Lane is another good one. Exit Cooks Lane where you see the sign that says "Park and Ride only," loop around the lot and you're on 70 west.

I'd say if you're coming from downtown take route 40, if you're coming from North of North Ave, take 29th Street/Gwynns Falls Parkway.
