That is what I heard someone say yesterday while visiting Bowie State University. She also said (roughly) that the city doesn't seem like the rest of MD. Just wondering, what's your opinion on these statement?

I am of the opinion that no part of Maryland is really like any other. We are a small skinny state straddling many geographic/cultural areas. I think Baltimore is as much "Maryland" as anywhere else. In fact I would say Baltimore and Annapolis are as close to "typical Maryland" as there is.

Baltimore, or anywhere in Maryland, is nothing like New York.

Not sure what you mean by "a lot of land." We are the 5th most densely populated state

and #42 in land area.

I guess it depends how you want to look at it. Sure NY and Baltimore are very different, but here are some ways they can compare. Also when you are from DC, which someone in Bowie may be, every city is very different in comparison.

-Both are Major Finance Cities
-They are two of the Original Large East Coast Cities
-Two of the Largest Jewish Populations
-Both have a very Vibrant downtown, with Vibrant downtown neighborhoods
-Both have three distinct social classes
-Both are Street Basketball Meccas
-Both have good food that defines them

Well in my opinion I don't agree with the statement either. I'm not farmiliar with Baltimore or their culture but I figure the cities and towns make the state, the state doesn't make them. So Baltimore is just as much of a part of Maryland as anywhere else in the state despite its differences.

Id have to say i agree. I think the person means that NYC is different then the rest of New York state, and I think Baltimore is different then the rest of Maryland. Compared with Cumberland, Frederick, Salisbury, etc, Baltimore is extremely different.
