Hi, I'm looking for a safe area with good schools. I have 2 elementary school age kids. At first, I'll be renting a two bedroom apartment. I don't own a car. However, I am taking driving lessons and I'm scheduled to take my road test in a few weeks. Growing up in NYC I've never felt the the need to drive. Public transportation had always been at my door step. I would greatly appreciate any info. Thanks in advance.

Public transportation in the county is pretty poor, especially if you are used to a metro system that takes you to places other than a few shopping and entertainment venues. You will need a car no matter where you live in the county, and unfortunately you'll be sharing the road with a bunch of "fair weather" drivers.
