I am wondering if anyone out there can tell me what neighborhoods in Baltimore are safe to live in for a single mother of two young boys. I am new to the area, and I keep hearing awful stories of Baltimore neighborhoods. I work in the Jessup area, and want to stay somewhat close and want to avoid tolls. I have a very limited budget due to circumstances of being a single mother.

Thanks to anyone who can help!

If safety is the major concern for you and that includes avoiding the annoying property crime risks
as well as murder, rape, and general mayhem it'll be hard to find that safe harbor on a "limited budget".
Not impossible but harder.

Perhaps you should look for other ways to save some money so you can afford to live in one of the more suburban areas;
eg: near other people who work where you do so you can share commuting expenses.

Finding a place in Jessup, Laurel, or Anne Arundel County near the airport will get you about the least expensive housing in the area. Don't go to Baltimore if you are worried about safety. There are occasionally mobile homes for rent in these area, and they are cheaper than apartments.
