My fiance and I are looking for teaching positions around a big city.
We are in need of a place with a music scene. Does Baltimore have much of a jazz scene?
Are there suburbs around the Baltimore area that may be nicer/safer than living in the city...at least for the first year or so?
What advice does anybody have?
Thanks!

Hi there! It is a shame because Balto city really needs teachers...but I wouldn't recommend working there. Try somewhere in Baltimore county like Perry Hall or White Marsh or in Harford County like Bel Air. Just my opinion! I am not sure about the jazz scene...sorry!

lol

Baltimore is in the midst of an uptick in crime, but nothing compared to what it used to. There are many gentrifying neighborhoods around downtown, and the condo boom in the inner harbor continues unabated. Baltimore has many lovely and quite affordable neighborhoods..and unfortunately many in disarray also. The southern portions of Baltimore county is also seeing an increase in crime, while the rest of the county is mostly suburban but quite expensive.

I've never really heard of Baltimore having much of a jazz scene, but apparently there is one. You might want to contact these people for more information: The Baltimore Jazz Alliance

The Merriweather Post, located just outside of Baltimore in Columbia hosts one of the largest Jazz Festivals in the country each year. The festival just ended last weekend and featured George Benson and a Host of others. Also, during the summers jazz concerts are held at the Inner Harbor and the Pier 6.
