Our landlord has left a bunch of "stuff", junk really - an old crib (his children are in college), two dog cages, a rocking chair, some papers, etc. The only extra space available in the house for storage is in the attic. Trying to access our winter clothes this week I nearly fell down the stairs. I have to step over the attic opening to get from box to box. I asked the landlord twice about it and he says he will try to "move some stuff around". Any thoughts on how I should handle this and what my rights are? Nothing is in the lease about the landlords stuff in the attic.

Thanks!

I'd give the owner one last warning. I'd tell him I consider the things "abandoned", and will take them to the land-fill unless they are removed within, for example, two weeks. (Actually, I'd try to "free-cycle" the good stuff like the dog cages and rocker.)

I'm not sure what the law is, but we kept some good pictures from the attic of a house we rented, and threw out the old carpeting.

Does your lease agreement specifically state that the attic is part of your rental?

I would think that it would state the property which would mean attic too.

I wouldn't mess with the stuff and tell the landlord to move it or you are moving.
