I've heard Hampden locals fling around the N word like it was nothing before ... However in recent years it has really become a new place, populated with educated folks who wouldn't dare do something so ignorant.

Thanks for the responses, Bmore is my favorite city and I've explored a good chunk of it. I think I may have to bring my bike next time. In fact I think I'll come up there today.

True. That said, I did have an experience where we came up to look at (at the time we were thinking of renting) rowhouses for rent and get a sense of the neighborhoods where they were, and we ended up going out to dinner in Hampden. A table nearby overheard that we wanted to move to Baltimore and told us we should move to Hampden because it was awesome and we'd love it there and one guy very strongly implied that it was also an advantage that there weren't that many black people there. So it looks like less extremely overt racism is a thing, although I've no idea how representative that guy was.

That's everywhere. As long as Hampden isn't like Howard Beach in NYC or Southie in Boston I'Il go.

Its hard to say.

Because its not uncommon in general for people to feel that more blacks in a neighborhood = lower quality of that neighborhood. I know for a fact that for some people, just driving through a neighborhood and spotting too many blacks, even if its a quiet, middle class area, is viewed as a negative.

Its just a reality.

Well, it explains why there are relatively nice black neighborhoods in Baltimore that no one seems to know exist. LOL. All folks know is black people live there so it can't be but so nice.

That's alright though, it means I can get a big house for cheap.
