Good morning,

We recently moved from the southern tier of NY to Maryland. We are currently in Linthicum Heights very close to BWI and enjoy the area.

We are thinking of buying a home in Sparrows Point.

The data on here is quite old (2012) and am looking for some new information.

Is the revitalization project by TradePoint Atlantic having a positive impact on the community?

What is the school like?
How is crime?
We don't really mind a 20-30 minute for entertainment or groceries as that is what we grew up with in NY.

Thoughts? Good, bad, ugly of Sparrows Point

You shouldn't compare a dump to a mansion.

Sparrows Point is a big step down from the Southern Tier NY.
Far more crime, far worse schools although maybe more entertainment.

Ah, New York to Baltimore, and Locust Point revitalization.....Sparrows Point close by.

The OP is not going to get many positive responses.

What has drawn you to Sparrows Point? (Actually, the residential community is known as Edgemere or perhaps Millers Island or Fort Howard nearby.) I lived in Edgemere for thirty years and its nothing out of the ordinary. It can have a small town feeling at times but it has its share of dirtbags as well. It is a "water-oriented" community with no shortage of bars and pizza/sub shops.

If it wasn't for schools, I would think the areas around Edgemere, Miller's Island, and even the VA hospital would be relatively desirable. Very quiet area for being so close to I-695 and the city.

The former VA hospital is closed and as far as I know, still patrolled by VA armed security guards. There have been developers interested but there is nothing going on. I think the VA should get out of the real estate business and turn the property over to the National Park Service or some other agency.

Sparrows Point!

I went there years ago for an in-person eBay purchase. I never knew the place existed. It reminded me a lot of the Broad Channel area of Queens, NYC.

Tons of cool looking bars. I would love to spent an evening tipping a few there. Obviously driving home would have to wait until the next day.
