Hi all,

I am moving to Baltimore in a month. I have a job on South Broadway in Fells Point, but would like to live in Federal Hill. Does anyone know of public transportation that will take me from Federal Hill to Fells Point?

Thanks for your help in advance!

I don't think there's any public transit that will take you between those two neighborhoods directly other than water taxi or cab, both of which would be expensive.

You could walk or take the bus (#1 or 64) north on Light St. to Pratt St., and then take another bus (#10 or 11) from there to Fells. I've never done it so I can't speak to how long it would take. Buses in Baltimore aren't as bad as some people make them out to be, but having to make a connection is a pain.

I'd suggest a bike or walking when the weather is nice.

Default We all in the same boat

Here is a possible seasonal solution: Bill Struever used to have kayaks to take his some of his workers from Fells Point to Tide Point. It was quite popular among the kayakers. Perhaps he has some in Federal Hill, or you could walk to Tide Point (in Locust Point).

I'd just walk it. It's a great walk right along the waterfront. The only other reasonable options would be two buses or a bike.

I've used the water taxi- its not expensive if you buy the year long pass for 80 bucks-- 80 bucks for about five months is not bad. I don't take it in because it doesnt get here early enough but its a great ride home!! I've also walked it, which is about a half hour walk... wouldn't be great in bad weather or at night though... I am looking for safe & reliable public transportation to Fells from Federal hill as well... let me know if you find anything!! It doesn't seem like there is a bus which seems unbelieveable.... Baltimore has the worst public transportation!

I agree with rudy..It's a great walk when the weather is nice and it's not that far.

I find walking home from work is fine most of the time, but walking more than a half mile to work in a shirt and tie carrying all the crap I schlep back and forth each day is kind of tough unless the weather is perfect I'm either really cold, wet from the rain, or a little (or a lot) sweaty which isn't how I want to start my already long and annoying workday. I only live a mile and a half from where I work and in theory I'd love to be someone who commutes without a car, I just don't think its realistic.

you can calculate public transit directions on the MTA homepage here:

Maryland Transit Administration Home Page

Looks to be around 20 minutes depending on where you are in the ever-expanding "Federal Hill"/South Baltimore

I keep a lot of that stuff at work for the commute: dress shoes, ties, etc. Also, I hardly ever bring stuff home and when I have to carry a lot or bad weather, I drive.

I've walked to work from Federal Hill (Riverside/Cross) to Fells Point (Thames/Bond) for the past 2 1/2 years. It's great, except for those below 20 degree days in the winter and walking home with temps in the 90s. I'd say I still drive about 1 day a month.

Before they better syncronized the lights through downtown, it would take me 30 minutes many mornings/evenings just driving the 2 miles to work. Now if I drive, it takes about 15 minutes.

I wouldn't rely on the water taxis. It will just extend your "commute" simply waiting for them to show up, waiting for the other passengers to board etc. Thought it was an option when I first got my job in Fells, but just not feasible.

Haven't tried doing the bus option.

For me the easiest/cheapest/most relaxing option is walking.

By the way, there have been police posted each evening in the Inner Harbor for the past month. But I've never felt unsafe walking the route, it is well traveled.
