Anyway, just as soon as I finally, fully, completely understand what a "door yard" IS, I will make sure not to step foot on it.

(I've asked several Mainers and no one can agree. Some tell me it's a yard. Some tell me it's an area right outside the door, some tell me it's where you put your car. Sigh...one day, I'll figure out which one of those is right.)
I believe it is the immediate surrounding area of the driveway where you park the car and whatever is between the car and the house-assuming the drive way is parallell or near paralell to the house and the end of the driveway is within sight of the home's back-door
now, if you have an outhouse, anywhere's near the backdoor and the drive-way , it's no longer a door-yard, unless it's a camp.

I hope this clears things up, once and for all......

The door yard is the area immediately outside the door you use most. For most people it is actually the side door or back door of your house.

Gee, why didn't anyone just say that in the first place?!

Alright Mainers....

Take a look at page 2, the very top post on page 2, woxyroxyme has a photo of SK's house.

Please point out, in that photo, where, EXACTLY, is the "door yard".

Go!

I wouldn't do that, no. But as you drive by you can see the length has been expanded many times. In talking to the locals they say he has built a movie theatre, bowling alley, along with other rooms which is evident. We didn't stay long, just a drive-by and a quick picture. I don't "wander" or trespass, ever.

Behind the fence. Fences clearly mark the "do'ah yaahd" area. It's a territorial thing.

Results may vary depending on whether you reside in the "citay" the "sticks" (close to the citay) or the "williwags" (in the land of moose poo and bear scat).

Urban Dictionary: maine-ah

They-ya go Deayuh. Consider yourself "edjumacated."

Where exactly is the picture? I'm still on page one. It was explained to you earlier and you did say you understood.

Nope, not the same thing.
That would be page two of this thread.

I thought I understood...until other Mainers told me something else. You can even see in this thread that Mainers can't agree what a "door yard" is.
