Hi-
Need to go down and do an overnighter in bangor for some appointments, where do you recommend to stay (or not) that won't break the bank! Also, any recommendations on reasonable and tasty restaurants would be helpful!

Depends on if you want a hotel to sleep in or one with all the comforts of home. For the latter, the Hampton Inn by the mall is great for $140 a night. If you want a clean motel that will not have that level of ambience than Motel6 is for you. Cost there is $59 and they will leave the light on for you! If all you want is a clean room with a bed, 19 inch tv, and bathroom I'd recommend Motel6.

I always stayed at either the Super 8 or Motel 6 when I went down to Bangor. As for the good places to eat, I can't say. It has been too long sense I stayed in Bangor and not just made day trips down and ate at the fast food joints by the Mall. Used to eat at Pauls, but that has been a while ago. Denny's was pretty good last time I ate there when I picked up my Truck.

Fairfield Fairfield Fairfield.....yes, I'm VERY biased here. Great people there, pool, and cookies. It's not in the prettiest location...it's near the airport, but it's a great place. And they have great cookies. Book early though, their secret is out! If you don't like the rate ask them directly if they can do better--sometimes they really can. Did I mention they have good cookies?

Sea Dog restaurant along the waterfront is yummy. Dysarts is very good too--homemade strawberry shortcake. There is also a pizza place on Hammond Street that is great, and Amato's is on Broadway. I'll talk to you about it at lunch today!!

For the National/American Folk Festivals we stayed at the Ranger Inn and the Super 8. Yes on the Super 8, no on the Ranger Inn.

There is a long row of motels on Odlin Road near the Airport. Econolodge is across the street from Howard Johnson. If my memory serves me right, there are only about 6 Howard Johnson restaurants left, so I found it a treat to go there for a meal.

We also had a good meal at the Ground Round on Odlin Rd a few years ago.

One thing I learned when I had a flight planned to arrive at BGR at 4"30 PM and then actually arriived at 10:45. The Super 8 does NOT supply a toothbrush if you need one.

Actually I meant the Econlodge not the Super 8. A very busy D & D just down the road at a very busy intersection. Had to hit it early.
