Then he writes a book and tells everyone, "Hey, spend 25 bucks and you'll know the truth!". What a dirtball.
Nobody HAS to buy the book. I didn't and I'm a big Pete Rose fan. When it comes to giving financial support to pro athletes, they get nothing from me. In fact, I haven't spent a nickel on pro sports or big college sports since the last game I atteneded at Jack Murphy stadium in July '86. If it ain't FREE, I don't watch it. In a small way that makes me just like the greedy pro athletes. They negotiate a salary that includes every last nickel that the market will bear, while I keep as much money in my wallet as I can, and still enjoy the entertainment they provide....for FREE. They get no financial support from me. Heck I wouldn't even spend a nickle for a private meeting with Willie Mays, my all time favorite athlete. So I'm just like Pete, looking out for my own best interests, and I imagine there are many more like me.....big sports fans who offer absolutely no financial support to the BUSINESS of pro sports.

If you have cable or satellite television, then you are contributing to them just not as much as if you were going to a game.

Granted, I am contributing to them as you point out, but not just not as much as if I were going to a game. Sports is only a portion of what I watch on cable. I'd estimate that I watch sports perhaps 20% of the time I have the TV on, so my contribution to sports come to less than 10 bucks a month. Can you even buy a hot dog at a sports stadium for 10 bucks these days?
