I think I heard this correctly/I think this is what I heard (kind of a weird record to keep track of)......

The Astros are the first MLB team ever to average at least 12 runs per game over a three game span while at the same time hitting at least 5 HRs in each of those three games.

Break out the brooms!!!

Glad to see Houston back on track. They'll now have a deserved day of rest before returning home to face the San Diego Padres. They need to get things squared away in front of the home fans so they can be right for the playoffs. Nonetheless, a great series just done in Arlington.

And Verlander was the victor tonight! Scherzer was shelled.

Didn't hear if it was over a 3 game span (any team) or a three game series (one team), but the Astros became the first team ever to get at least 50 hits and hit at least 16 home runs over the span.

Tonight......Go Rays !!!!!

The Astros (and the Rangers as well) are off today (9/7), so hopefully the Rays (at home) will beat the Mariners (currently at 61 losses) tonight so that the Mariners would then have one more loss.....for a total of 62 losses....than the Astros (Astros currently also at 61 losses).

Last night's game was the 12th game in MLB history where the two starting pitchers had each won 3 or more Cy Young awards.

It was also the first game since September 16, 2007 (Clemens and Schilling) where both starting pitchers had at least 3,000 career strikeouts.

Ugh. (Today 9/7's game)

I don't think I've ever followed such a pitch count discrepancy through 6 innings for the starters (109 for Castillo for Seattle to 63 for Littell for Tampa Bay) where the lower pitch count guy is losing.

Littell = one run in 63 pitches

Castillo = zero runs in 109 pitches

Littell = 18 pitch 7th with no scoring.

Campbell to pitch starting the 7th for Seattle.

Hopefully the Rays can get to Campbell.

ETA: Ugh. Campbell....struck out 3 (15 pitches) in the 7th (one base runner re fielding error). Castillo had 8 Ks in his 109 pitches.

ETA2: Littell....a 6 pitch 8th for Tampa Bay....87 pitches overall with one run.....but still losing 1-0

ETA3: Brash pitches bottom of the 8th for Seattle, 1k and two ground outs, 14 pitches. I wonder what the record is for number of pitches thrown in a game by a staff with no runs (neither earned nor unearned) scoring.

ETA4: Kittredge = 10 pitch top of the 9th pitching for Tampa Bay.....Tampa Bay will have one last chance to get at least one run in the Bottom of the 9th.

ETA5: Munoz hits Raley with a pitch....but then Raley is thrown out trying to steal second . Munoz Walks Walls.

ETA6: Munoz strikes out Aranda on a 3-2 count ...but Walls steals second .

ETA7: Munoz strikes out pinch hitter Ramirez .

Mariners win 1-0.......no benefit for the Astros

All the series which remain for the Astros are all three-game series. Furthermore, they will not be any games on Thursday for the entire month of September, so they get a day off each week. Not bad.

At least the Mariners just lost 7-4.

ETA: Padres 5, Astros 1, after 4....A's and Rangers tied 2-2 in the bottom of the 4th in Arlington.

Enough MLB regular season games have been played outside the U.S. and Canada that, as of earlier this season, one player has homered in four different countries.

Bogaerts hit a HR in England when he was playing for the Red Sox and, earlier this season with the Padres, he hit a HR in Mexico City.

Astros now down 6-1, and A's and Rangers tied now 3-3.

ETA: Astros now down 8-2, but Rangers also down 6-3....both bottom of the 7th. If the Astros lose, they will be .500 at home....35-35.

ETA 2: Astros now down 11-2...more fans leaving even with the fireworks show after the game. Astros have the third best record in MLB so far this season on the road. Rangers still down 6-3.

ETA3: Astros lose 11-2...Texas down to their last out with 1 on, still down 6-3.

ETA4: Rangers lose 6-3...No changes in the situation between the three teams other than a remaining game checked off for each team.

Yandy Diaz just hit a 2 out 2 strike walk off home run in the bottom of the ninth to break a 5-5 tie, lifting the Rays to a 7-5 win over the Mariners .

Astros/Padres game and Rangers/A's game.....both start in under 15 minutes.
