The Cubs broke a record Tuesday for loosing their 50th home game of the year. For a team that has been around for a 140 years or so that's pretty pathetic. Even bad teams usually are close to 500 at home. I know, we're rebuilding. Some things never go out of style. I guess that's why this will be my first year not seeing the Cubs play in over 20 years. Next year just never seems to come.
fwiw, I took my wife to Wrigley last week for the Tues & Wed games. We got to a dozen games a year at PNC, but she wanted to experience a game without all the manufactured noise and loud music/video assaults. So I said, let's go to Wrigley before they put up the huge scoreboard. She said it reminded her of Forbes Field, with the columns, the bad lighting, and the 60's ambience. Couldn't have been treated better. We were wearing Bucs gear, but every ticket taker, every usher, most of the fans congratulated us for Pirates making the playoffs. And there were ~25,000 in attendance for both games, which, given how bad the Cubs are doing, is pretty good. Better than playoff contenders like Cleveland and the Rays are pulling.
And we even enjoyed how y'all stayed to sing "Go Cubs Go" after winning on Wednesday.
Been to a lot of parks. Was only my 2nd time at Wrigley. But even in a losing season, it's got the best atmosphere in and around the park. Better than even Fenway IMO.
If the Ricketts family would invest more in players, especially it's pitching staff, and stop changing managers like they do their underwear, the Cubs might break the curse.
Maybe the goat head found in front of Wrigley this year was a sign? Hard to know if it was good, or bad, as my dear Cubbies continue their slide. I truly hope the Cubs do better next year, but you know, we Cubs fans have been saying that like forever.
Maybe modernization of the scenery at Wrigley will mean something, after all, the Brewers were losers and pulled it out somewhat after their new stadium was built.
