If you're paying a closer $10 million, yeah, you've got money to burn.
Johnson was yanked from the closer role in mid May. Johnson was given his unconditional release two days ago.
So...for the sake of strict accuracy, the A's are no longer paying their closer 10 million, they are still paying, but Johnson is no longer closing anything save doors and windows.
The A's closer is now Sean Doolittle and he works his magic for a mere $505,000 this season.
Doolittle is signed through 2018 with two option years after that. If the A's exercise both option years, in the final year, 2020, Doolittle gets 6.5 million, still 3.5 million less than the bucks pissed away on Johnson.

I don't know why you bothered to respond with the rest of this publicly available/easily accessible/common knowledge to the average baseball fan information. All that mattered to the point of discussion between myself and CaliBassMan was the $10 mill for Johnson.
I don't want to see the Cards again as I don't believe they stand a chance of winning, nor is there anything particularly interesting about them this year. Last year they had the Wacha storyline and Beltran's superb post-season history. This year, nada.
Couldn't agree more.

Not a big fan of Dodgers, but I'd watch Kershaw. But given their supposed talent level and cost, I'd have expected the Dodgers to have 70 wins by now. They're underperformers.
I have no opinion on this.

Pittsburgh would be great. Fans would be insane at PNC. Which you certainly couldn't say about Atlanta.
What would be cool is if the Pirates played the Braves in the NLCS, like they did in 1991 and 1992, and this time, beat the Braves as a form of revenge.

Can't root for Milwaukee because of Braun. Though I imagine Gomez would do something entertaining in a WS environment.
I will still be happy if Milwaukee goes to the World Series.

Nats... I don't think I could stand hearing about how great Bryce Harper is when the guy still hasn't done anything.
I don't pay much attention to Bryce Harper.

I'd enjoy seeing Oakland or Detroit have their hearts broken after emptying their respective bank accounts.
Pirates vs. A's would be stellar. It's time for some fresh meat in the World Series, and I'd love to see McCutchen vs. Moneyball. I will watch the World Series if it's anybody but the Cardinals. I normally wouldn't want to see the Yankees, but it'd be cool if they could get there for Jeter's final season.

Believe me the owner of the Tigers has more money than you think. Mike ilitch owns little cesars pizza and the Detroit Redwings. His wife owns a casino in Detroit. He is also building a new arena for his Redwings. So he is doing ok. The Tigers now have 3 cy young pitchers and a big lead in their division. And don't forget about our triple crown winner.
