I am a Dodger fan who lives in the Dodger market, yet cannot watch a Dodger game on TV unless it's broadcasted by ESPN. Not able to even watch them on MLB because I live in the Dodger market.
Because of the deal the Dodgers signed with Time Warner Cable, TWC is now charging fees that the other cable companies just wont subject their customers to, even those who wish to pay those fees can't do it even if they want to.
I can't even pay the MLB network to get their broadcast because as a person living in the Dodger market, I am banned from getting their broadcast. My son who lives back east can watch more Dodger games than I can!!!
I know I am only one of milions who have this same problem.
My sympathies. I missed two and a half years of A's broadcasts because of the same sort of attempt to extort a cable provider. It used to be that Comcast Sports carried the Giants and the A's games. Then in 2009 Comcast decided to split itself into a separate entities, Comcast Bay Area and Comcast California. The Giants were carried by the former , the A's by the latter. Comcast of course then insisted on twice as much money since they were providing twice as much programming, which of course they weren't, they were just compartmentalizing the same presentation.
So my local cable company said no dice and refused to carry more than one Comcast station. So, for '09, '10 and the first two months of '11, no A's games.
There's a similar issue with Astros games in Texas. Only a small part of the Houston metro can get the games on a specific cable service. I have MLB Extra Innings but can't get Astros games on it, and there is no local broadcast of it on DirecTV. The only way I can see their games is if they're on national TV or playing the Rangers.

MLB blackout rules for MLB extra innings (etc) are rediculous if you ask me. I think baseball is really failing their fans in this regard. They let teams black out zip codes, based on who they think the team may be able to sell it's broadcasts to over local cable/satellite.
As an example, here in Buffalo, the closest MLB team is the Toronto Blue Jays. They are not blacked out here. However, the Pittsburg Pirates, Cleveland Indians, and BOTH New York City teams are blacked out. So that's 4 games a day, I just cannot watch unless local TV services carry them. In their defense, both NYC team's broadcasts are on local cable and satellite. The Indians and Pirates basically never will be.
This goes on around the country.
You would think by offering subscriptions, MLB would not black the games out so you could watch the team you want, instead of restricting it to distant out of market teams. (But then, they may miss out on some commercial dollars for cable TV).
Never even heard of a Slingbox. If I can get TWC than I would, it is not even offered where I live.
Is the Dodgers channel on DirecTV or Dish?
A Slingbox is a device that allows you to watch your TV from a remote location. Say your uncle has TWC in LA, and he allows you to hook one up to a TV w/cable in his spare bedroom. The Slingbox would allow you to watch and control that TV from anywhere, using your computer, tablet, phone, etc.
How exactly then are the Dodgers making money off of a TV deal that's supposedly the richest in MLB if few cable outlets are paying the carriage fees? I'm confused here.

The Dodgers are geting their money from Time Warner Cable whether they are selling subscriptions or not. This is not a Dodger issue financially, it is a Time Warner issue financially. They are contractually obligated to pay the Dodgers.
The issues is that TWC is holding out so evidently money is not an issue for them either.
