Magically, teams can go with a 3 man in the playoffs. Dodgers would have little shot against Mets if they had to do the full 5. Is what it is but doesn't seem right.
It isn't a matter of right or wrong, simply conditions.
The playoffs feature travel days so four pitchers may be used with each still getting his regular rest between starts. It is the end of the season so all pitchers will have six months of rest to recover from any abnormal use during the post season, justifying starting someone with three days rest.
The thinking is that clubs will be better off having their best starters with less than normal rest than they would be with their fourth or fifth best starter out there even though well rested.

There should be 1 day off in between..not 2. I can live with 1 pitcher makiing 2 starts in a 5 game series ...But two? Cmon.
In the traditional 7 game series, at least you have to use 4 pitchers. I am okay with not using the 5th.
Who cares? Kershaw is at a disadvantage if he doesn't get his full rest. Mets shouldn't be complaining, they have plenty of great pitchers. They can use their top 2 guys for games 4 and 5 if they want.
The season is 162 games. So it's not really hard to believe that in the playoffs of a 5 or 7 game series only 3 pitchers pitch. If the major league season was only 7 games they wouldn't have 5 pitchers.

But the difference is the Dodgers DON'T have depth after number 2 and magically don't have to worry about it now.

He's done very well the three times on 3 days rest. In fact Kershaw on 3 days rest is still probably better than 90% of the pitchers out there.

So what? The Mets can still put their best 2 pitchers out there twice. Or could have. It's not like putting Greinke out there tomorrow night is a slam dunk victory when deGrom is on the other side.

It seems to me a whiny Mets fan is just coming up with excuses before his annointed team even plays the final game.
