Cards are in the driver's seat now, guys. We're on our way!
I'm pretty excited for the postseason to start, to say the least. If Smoltz can continue to be effective, a rotation of Carpenter, Wainwright, Pineiro (still can't believe I'm saying that) and Smoltz would look awesome going into the playoffs. Carp and Waino are almost unfair in the top two spots, and I think you'd be hard-pressed to find better #3 and #4 guys than Pineiro and Smoltz at this point. I guess it's possible that Lohse gets into the swing of things this month, but I'm not banking on him being effective when he comes back. It would make the rotation that much better if he did manage to regain his 2008 form a little bit, but I think we'll be fine without him.
Either way, I'm glad to be excited about October again. It's obviously going to require some stellar play, but going to the World Series is a very realistic goal for the Cardinals this year - can't get much better than that!

And if you can overcome the Dodgers and/or the Phillies when that time comes, you are pretty much in it.

Well, yeah. That goes without saying.
The Cards' magic number currently sits at 17, which is the lowest of any team if I remember correctly. They could clinch in just a few weeks if things keep going well.

Outside of an epic collapse, the Cards are a cinch in the Central at this point.
Right now, I would have them as my favorite for the series out of the NL too.
Okay, for the entire game tonight, I was sure the Cardinals were going to lose. It just didn't feel right. Then, Matt Holliday comes up and blasts a two-run homer against Trevor Hoffman in the 9th to give the Cards another win.
Why do I like the Cubs!
Why do I like the Cubs!
Why do I like the Cubs!
Why do you??

I love this team!
Even though it's far from official, they've pretty much got the division taken care of now, TN. It won't matter what the elimination numbers are for the others. Winning 8 out of your last 10 with no sign of letting up, and it looks like you'll clinch, I predict, by the end of next week.

I ask myself that same question a lot!
