Rex Barney, pitcher, Brooklyn-NL (1943-50). He came to the majors with all kinds of hype, turned into a legend in his own mind, and--surprise!--never lived up to expectations. His career record was only 35-31. But, because the Dodgers had become a powerful team by the late 40s, Barney did get into two World Series, 1947 and 49 (0-1 in each).
Putsy Caballero - began with the Phillies when he was 16 in 1944. A utility type infielder who played for 9 seasons, all with Philly. And just when you think a player would be coming into his prime years at age 25, he was all done.
Pat Dobson, pitcher, who with the Baltimore Orioles won 20 games in 1971. This was the same year that Dave McNally won 21, Jim Palmer won 20 and Mike Cuellar also won 20. I don't think there will ever be another pitching staff where four starters win 20 games in the same season. If we ever have a thread with "Baseball Lasts", this would be one of them.
Tommy John, pitcher for many teams (Yankees, Indians, White Sox, Dodgers) and who at some point will best be known for "Tommy John surgery". It always struck me as funny when my daughter first saw a poster of the Beatles and was surprised that McCartney was in a band before Wings. Sometime, the next generation who will be surprised to learn there really was a Tommy John!
