6-6 after 12 games????? Ok, so they are now finally playing like they actually care about their fans and want to succeed. I know it's still early but I just had to give some EARLY PROPS to the Nats for playing baseball like professionals for a change.

I see Ivan Rodriguez was a good pick up

In 2005 they were in first place at the All-Star break, and were close to 20 games over .500.

I was impressed at how well they played against the Phillies in Philly

Livan Hernandez will start giving up some runs

But, the Nationals are better than their W - L record was last year. They were pretty unlucky.

Don't be too surprised if they end the year around .500. I'd guess closer to 76 wins though

They were willing to hit the free agent market and acquire some decent and mid range talent. They also really went after relief help which was good. Todays game 10 runs were scored against them in the first but they still finished it 11-7,that says alot.

It sure does, it says that the 2010 Mets probably will be the 2009 Nats

TVSG, my question to you in this thread is as follows: when was the last time a team's record in April decided the season for them?

good point!

My response to the OP in regards to his question----" do I need eye surgery"-- would be YES.

( especially if you can't see the APRIL in your calendar)

I see your point, but I also think people are too quick to write off games early in the season, using the argument "it's just April".

I know that's not what you're doing here, but sometimes people forget that all games carry the same amount of weight.

I can think of one April game that decided a team's season for them in a way. April of 2008. Johan Santana's first start at Shea in a Mets uniform. He was not good. The Brewers hit him pretty hard and when he was pulled there was a decent amount of booing going on, not from my section, but it was definitely out there.

What nobody could have known that day was how important that start actually was. On the last day of the season, the last day at Shea, the Mets lost to the Marlins. Minutes later the Brewers won their game. The Mets lost out on the wild card to the Brewers by one game, and their season was over.

It's impossible to determine what would happen on a Sunday in late September based on something that happened on a Saturday in mid April. There are just too many games in between. There are too many variables to count. Maybe if Santana pitched better in that April start he would have gone out for another inning and gotten hurt. Who knows?

But the fact is, if Santana would have pitched better against the Brewers during that April start, there's a very good chance the Mets would have been in the playoffs. If the Mets won that game and everything else broke the same way, they would have been.
