Does anyone else find Basketball odd that people seem to like the winning team?
The 90s Bulls the early 2000s Lakers, the 2010s Heat and now the Warriors are very popular.
In most sports people hate the successful teams outside their market.
So while the Blackhawks and Kings have grown more popular in their respective markets outside of those markets people start to hate them.
Same thing with the NFL, everyone outside New England hates the Patriots, and in the MLB everyone hates the Yankees because they win so much.
Its reversed in Basketball were the overwhelming feeling is to love the winning teams.

I think people hate the Patriots just because of Brady and belicick. People hop on NFL bandwagons too. Jay-Z, Chris Christie, and LeBron have all gone on record as saying they grew up cowboys fans.
this just made me laugh a little thinking about this thread
Heh, I was actually thinking about that the other day watching Currys rookie highlights. I know no one is going to agree with me, but I prefer that logo over their current one.

Noooooooooooooooooo!
@btown, basketball is the most entertaining sport and is usually appreciated on its own merits (unless it's the Spurs). People don't have to be a fan to appreciate a top player's skill level, and basketbà ll teams aren't as tied to a regional identity like football or especially baseball.

That's true though not nearly to the same extent. The Cowboys are hated precisely for that reason. In the NBA, though, bandwagoning is far more common and acceptable. It's not like the Chicago Bulls had legions of fans around the country before the Jordan era. When someone says they are a "Bulls" fan, they likely mean they are a Jordan fan, and couldn't really tell you much more about the franchise before the Jordan era. Compare that to Washington Redskins fans in their late 20s who can talk about Art Monk, Joe Theissman, Chris Hanburger, Sonny Jurgensen, etc.
NBA fans choose their teams. For the most part, NFL fans don't have as much of a choice as they do an inheritance.
Looks like I may need to hop off GSW's bandwagon, and jump on OKC Thunder's pretty soon.
However... I'm remembering that the Red Sox were down 3-0; came back and took down the mighty Yankees, and won the World Series in 7 games (2004).
Hmmm...
The last time a conference finals team came back from a 3-1 deficit was in 1981 (Boston Celtics with Larry Bird).
So yes, possible. But not likely.
