Ironically the Lakers have won the last 3 games [Portland\ San Antonio\ Utah] while Kobe & Bynun are not playing due to injuries. Is it coach Jackson triangle defense or Gasol, Odam & company getting serious?

If you are suggesting they could be a championship contender without Kobe I would say, you are wayyyy off. Could they be a good team without him but the rest of the roster? Yes, but I would not call them elite without Kobe. I will admit that is an impressive string of Ws though.

Sometimes that happens when your star player goes down. They rally around that but it usually doesn't last long, they're role/bench players for a reason Kobe can carry a team, the others can't

I was waiting for this topic to eventually surface...yeah they are winning, but its only three games, very small sample size. Usually Lamar Odom is a match up problem for most teams, now that he has got more minutes we have seen his good side. However, every basketball fan knows that Lamar has a bad side too, very inconsistent as a player. To finally end this, who would you rather have on your team at the 2 spot, Kobe or Shannon Brown? No doubt Gasol has been tearin' it up tho.

The way the Lakers played in the last 3 games actually hurts Kobe's chances of becoming an MVP...though he has said that he prefers winning championships anyway.

It was wise for coach Jackson to rest Kobe [too many gnawing injuries]. Bynam has a history of injuries so the Lakers must perform well without him if necessary. The surprise is how well the current starters & bench are playing together under Gasol [ many double doubles] & Odom's leadership. Artest & Brown are creating great defensive plays. Fish & Farmer hitting 3's. But the Lakers tend to be inconsistent at times so hopefully they maintain this level of play.

Gasol is an all-star and people seem to forget that Artest used to get MVP votes himself. It's a deep team.

It's a deep team, but they aren't sniffing the finals without Kobe period.
