Default Moving to Baton Rouge?

There is a chance that I may end up moving to the BR area in the next few months. I'm looking for information on school districts/nice places to live in the South BR area - an easy drive to the LSU campus.

Any suggestions?

From the south there are 3 main entryways onto the campus: Burbank, Nicholson and Highland. Lots of new condos and townhouses going up on Burbank between Bluebonnet and Lee Drive. New single family homes going up on Nicholson south of Gardere, and thruout that area. Highland is older, established and more expensive.

Rosinante,

Thanks for the info. Do you know anything about school districts in that area?

If you're coming from Knoxville, TN as your member name suggests, you will probably want to be thinking about private schools unless you are certain that your kids will get into one of the magnet schools.

Not very good, unless (1) you want to live in Ascension, or (2) you want to send $ on private schools.

An easy drive? Move next door to where you're going to be working. Traffic in BR is horrendous! An accident on I-12 yesterday afternoon had the South side of the city gridlocked until 8 p.m. My usual 15 minute trip home from Picardy and Essen to Millerville, at 2:30 p.m. took over an hour. My husband made the same trip an hour later and it took him more than 2 hours to get home.

Brusly is in an okay district and it's between 15 and 20 minutes from LSU. Traffic on the bridge at rush hour can be hairy, but you are only on the freeway for a couple of miles.

There are some really good private schools in BR. Zachary, Central, Livingston, and Ascension also have good public schools.

EBR is a pretty awful school district. Those that can afford to put their kids in private school do and most everybody else lives outside of the district. Central has an awesome ISD and is really close to Baton Rouge (was part of Baton Rouge not long ago). Otherwise, I'd start looking at perochial schools.

You probably should look into the neighborhoods off of Highland Road, also Southdowns, and the Garden District. If your kids can't get into a magnet school you should try private schools. There are a few fairly affordable ones in Baton Rouge.

People seem to think that BR is the only city with traffic-try Atlanta where it takes over an hour every day for my friends to get home and get to work(they live 8 miles outside of Atlanta) and that is without an acident-so I really do not think traffic is that bad here! Also, it is "bad" because people from all the other parishes have to come in to work in Baton Rouge.. Traffic is a lot less after 7pm and on the weekends becasue they are not here.
