You are going to have to check with local government. In some places, you can have a home business in a residential area, as long as no customers come to your house. In other places, you will have to set up in a commercially zoned property.

In an agricultural area, you can have a few customers come to your place specifically to buy your own produced agricultural products. Something not farm related, like a wedding location business won't be allowed. (that specific one has been to court).

If you are not in legal compliance, your liability insurance will not pay out if you have a liability issue. It's possible that your fire insurance won't pay either, depending upon what business you are running.

You can bake and sell a few types of baked goods in a home kitchen, but the kitchen has to be inspected and licensed. (which is as it should be)
