Hello, we will be going to Big Island (Kona Airport) for 3 months starting December this year, I want to ask some advise where we could rent a car that will be economical and would fit 2 adults and 2 kids. I was hoping to spend $500 a month or less including all the taxes and fees. All the rental agencies offer $650 plus tax or more per month. If it makes any difference, we live in Seattle, WA area and have great driving records.
Please advise.
Thank you.

Default Outside of the box ramblings

Just a thought, maybe you should buy a lower cost car and then sell it prior to leaving (only lose a small amount of depreciation vs spending $1500 for nothing. Or rent something from a local? Maybe thinking outside of the box a bit. Also, I have seen it cost under $1000 to ship your car out. [although that may very well be more trouble than it is worth] I have no idea about renting, (I am not living there now, but these thoughts popped into my head as I read your post.) No doubt there will be others with varied thoughts. Good luck.

$650 is a good deal per month~ I was going to ship my car over originally and that is also a good option but will cost about $2,000 r/t.

The lowest I found a rental for 2 weeks on the BI was $440~so IMO, you got a good deal -- may I ask which car rental co?

firecoach, your answer is below

I have had several rental cars respond to me but the only e-mail I kept is from a local guy who lives part in Portland, OR and part in Big Island, he rents his Toyota RAV4 year 2000 for $175 per week or $600 a month. His name is Alfredo
