To build on Teeracore’s post - I’d do a Speedtest - many devices can’t handle that speed. If you don’t get that actual speed and you likely won’t I’d ask HT for a credit.

My experience with ISP’s - no such thing as credit. Lol. But I always do speed tests on occasion.

However, I never heard about devices not being able to handle that speed. Could you explain that to me as I’m definitely not savvy with technology.

Mahalo for your input.

Many computers TVs etc just don’t have the hardware to handle that speed. Load the Speedtest app. Very likely your actual speed well under 500mbs

Geez, how can they stay in business if everyone is demanding a $.37 credit? Is this what Ma Bell put up with?

When I had landline, the first utility that was down during bad weather was always the landline. I called Hawaiiantel and their explanation was somewhere (not in my neighborhood) the telephone pole was down and took 2-3 weeks to fix. They gave me credit back but it defeats the purpose of keeping a landline.

Most utilities in Hawaii are extremely area dependent. Here on Hawaii Island, my experience has been just the opposite with the landlines being the ones still functioning when the cellphones go down. But, they've been putting a lot of effort into the cell towers lately and the last time either one went down for any length of time was quite awhile ago so it may be different now.

You miss all the shots you don’t take. I know plenty of people who have gotten substantial credits for speeds that weren’t attainable.

"However, I never heard about devices not being able to handle that speed. Could you explain that to me as I’m definitely not savvy with technology."

In most houses the biggest throttle in speed is the wifi. But we do speedtests at our place and phones can't move data as fast as laptops, and laptops can't move data as fast as a desktop, and none of those will move data as fast as a computer that doesn't have wifi.

To get "gigabit" speeds on an individual computer you would need a computer with a gigabit-capable network interface and have it directly cabled to the router with a gigabit capable cable. The Cat 5 cables you see everywhere can't move data that fast. And then when you go through all that trouble, you'll find the internet doesn't really move that fast anyway, and your realized speed is the same as the 100mb/s package at a fraction of the price. Your speed is only going to be as fast as the slowest bottleneck. Faster speeds are more necessary when you add many users and their devices that are using the network.
