I was in Bham visiting my mother two weeks ago. I am from Bham, and currently live in SC. So while my mother and my son were at her house, I decided to go through some of the old areas I used to enjoy. I was driving through Crestwood/Irondale area, and wanted to go through Avondale as they have been revitalizing it. I also wanted to see whether any changes have been made to the old Bottletree location, as I used to go there from time to time. Then I remembered they had closed down some of the undesirable stores and adult theater in Eastlake, so I figured I would just cut through first ave to get to Avondale and see what if any changes had been made. Now I know from experience that Eastlake at midnight is not a safe place to be. There are multiple prostitutes, drug dealers, and gangs. I am not generalizing, I am speaking from what I had actually seen that night. So I am driving, then someone gets right on my bumper. They backed away, then actually sped up and bumped me. I took off and pulled into the gas station to call 911, then they circled in and tried to trap me. I slipped past them, then as I was speeding down other direction they rammed me again, while I was phone with 911. I saw in my mirror that their car was knocked to the left and they were in other lane, so I gunned it and ran lights til I got to freeway. Met cop at gas station off of Tallapoosa. He said it was likely that they were waiting for me to get out so they could rob me or carjack me, someone in Woodlawn had been carjacked one hour earlier. Also said since school about to start, could have been new gang members trying to prove themselves before the school year started. I just wanted to see if anyone has had an experience like this before? Thanks

I'm just sayin', but I would avoid those areas in daylight, now and 20 yrs ago when I lived in the area.

Yeah, Ive passed through multiple times and haven't really had any issues, this was definitely pretty much like something out of a movie. I am a social worker and have had psychiatric pts in some really bad areas who I would have to visit as part of a community psych program, but I have never been confronted wit anything like this. Crazy

Mmm, check past posts in the forum. Someone had a similar experience going past Pell City. Concealed Carry permit. Take the safety courses, practice aiming.

One question, did you have SC license plates? Same thing happened to me while I was visiting family in Miami.

.

That has been happening in Miami for many years especially if you were driving a rental car or a car from out of the city or another state.

Florida finally went to a license plate that didn't show which county it was from.

It is a scary situation.

Cool Mobile

Wow saw a couple of horror stories about Birmingham, I grew up in Jersey and have lived in Calif, Fl and now in Knoxville TN I hate it here, worst place ever so im looking to move and was considering the 3 hour drive south to Birmingham but on second thought after reading these articles maybe not.

Maybe Mobile might be a better choice or Texas Plano for that matter.

I have a M.A. In ADmin with health science option and I want to relocate to a yuppie area, fun upbeat and I can't afford NY so looking around. Any ideas?
