Early welcome to the area. There's a lot to love hear. Also wanted to echo the comments about staying within the 459 loop. 280 and 65 are unforgiving the farther south you go.

Yep. I know that Zillow (at least on mobile) has a tool that let's you draw a border around the areas in which you want to search.

We are exhausted from looking. We drove out to Greystone today to look at a home and though we love it we are afraid everyone is correct about the drive! Mountain Brook looks beautiful but unfortunately I don't think we'll be able to find anything that'll fit our needs under $450,000.
