I read that Tesla is going to build a manufacturing company in one of the states south of us,, Is there anyone from this state of Idaho going after this 6500 man jobs ?
From what I've read, they've narrowed the search for a site for the battery plant to Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. It's not a car manufacturing plant; the cars are made in the old Toyota/GM NUMMI assembly plant in Fremont, CA.
Oh thx for straighten me out on that ukiyo-e,, some one wrote it that the batteries and the cars were to be what state they were looking into building a plant ..Not sure I would want the battery plant as when people get rid of their old dead batteries the company might take them as a bonus for people to buy the new batteries they need,,, and then Idaho would be a dumping ground for old batteries that harm the soil.

yes I do..did you ever read up about how much bad things get dumped in the Ocean.? I do think anyone can be policed and kept from doing so ,but it still happens ..
Why not build the Teslas here in Idaho (or even a battery plant)?
Several reasons
1) We simply don't have the population/demographics to support a high end exclusive builder
2) With everything being so spread out here even the 150-200 mile range of a Tesla really isn't practical here. It would be a decent treasure valley commuter among the small population of Boise's affluent but that's about as far as it would go
3) The Boise area is isolated from any other decent sized populations. In order to find a metro area that is of comparable size or larger, you have to travel about 325 miles to Salt Lake or 400 miles to Portland
4) I could be wrong but I think it is a little more expensive to run truck freight to and from the Boise area for the reason listed in number 3 and that would be the only real option for shipping things to and from the Boise area.
The bottom line is that we don't have the market/demographics or proximity to other metro areas to be a practical choice for them.

(**the new plant is going to be for manufacturing batteries, not the actual cars)
I am not sure if Items #1 and #2 (and even #3) would be reasons they would not choose a location for their huge new battery plant because the market/demographics would have little to do with building batteries. Also, Tesla plans on building a less expensive car for the "mass market" to offer up a more affordable product of theirs to the regular American.
The cars are built at their plant in California so choosing a new battery location with direct rail lines to CA is what they seem to want to accomplish and they appear to be looking at the Southwest.
