My place came with a furnished fridge that has quite working properly the landlord is not fixing the problem correctly is it for them to replace or repair or do I need to pay to have it fixed. I've only lived here for a month an a half and have had multiple problems Im at my wits end my food is only lasting 48 hrs. Any advice is greatly appreciated

If the contractual intent was to provide a functioning fridge in the lease, then the landlord is bound, by contract, to provide one. I doubt it was that specific. If the lease does not mention the fridge at all, then it may be up to you, many of the places that I have leased did not have a fridge and I had to provide my own. Most landlords want to retain good renters and take care of things that don't work, ask them...

Say the renter has to buy another fridge? Can they dispose of the old one, or do they need to get the landlord to pick it up? Cuz the new fridge should go with the renter when they move if they paid for it.

Unfortunately, this is a bit of a grey area...

If the lease explicitly included the fridge it should be replaced or repaired. Some leases provide appliances, but do not guarantee repair or replacement if they fail. That would be need to be clearly written in the contract. If there is no mention of it in the lease you'll probably have to replace it. I wouldn't repair the current one since it isn't yours. And be sure to keep the receipt from the purchase of your new one.

If I were in your shoes, I would just buy a fridge and stick it in the garage. Put a thermostat in the broken fridge and then maybe make weekly complaints that the temperature is 52 degrees and needs to be at least 37 to safely store food. I would complain it a way that I can prove that I made it, written or email.

If the landlord does finally correct the problem, you could try selling the fridge on craigslist. Plus you're saving yourself a ton of money in food loss.
