I hope this isn't affecting anyone here - or if it is, that you are getting the support you need to recover quickly.

One person found dead in burned home (http://blogs.ktvb.com/breaking/2008/08/one-person-found-dead-in-burne.html - broken link)

General article about the fires, from KTVB (http://www.ktvb.com/news/localnews/stories/ktvbn-aug2508-major_fire.117ce9e5.html - broken link)

The areas affected, from the above link:

Quote:
Homes that were destroyed or damaged were on both sides of E. Sweetwater Drive.

Homes evacuated include those along the rim, including Aphrodite Court, E. Homestead Rim Court, E. Trakker Rim Drive, S. Sweetgrass Place, S. Hay Seed Way, E. Lichen Street, S. Adonis Way and E. Flores Court... The fire broke out just after 7 p.m. in the Oregon Heights subdivision.
Basically, this is the neighborhood in southeast Boise north of the Simplot Sports complex.

This was really scary to watch unfold. My heart goes out to those who were affected. I think everyone is in shock right now.

Very sad, but more and more houses are built on the foothills, there will always be high risk of fire, mudslide or other natural disasters.
Same thing goes for bulding houses on the riverbank, nice to have the priceless view but this won't save what you worked for a life time.

What I don't understand is how anyone could let the brush all the way up to the house and not crate a safe zone to protect the properties?
