There is a movie coming out based on "If I stay" by Gayle Forman, the sequel is "Where She Went". I'll wait till it comes out on DVD, you know how movies can be nothing like the books

I love reading about different cultures, especially of the experiences of someone new to a different culture as is the case when these three Canadian men decide to retrace an historic route across the Arabian desert as it was done 50 years earlier by an adventurer with camels, instead of the now used 4-wheel drive vehicles.

I have also always been curious about camels, their temperament and what it would be like to work with them, and this book has much information about the six camels used and camels in general.

The vivid descriptions really put me in the scene, and I enjoyed the humor,as well.

Highly recommended for those who would enjoy a 'nonfiction' Indiana Jones type story.
You might enjoy Skeletons on the Sahara by Dean King. It's a non-fiction account of a merchant ship that crashed in 1815 and what happened as its crew was scattered across the Sahara. Some of it is grisly, but it's also fascinating.

I'm still reading Wool by Hugh Howey and it's passing the "take it to work to read at lunch" test.

Dawn, I downloaded from my library after your post. I started reading it last night and I can't put it down. Be forewarned, it's almost 700 pages.

Yep, it's a good series. There are five in all (to date). V. interesting premise, I like the evolution of the main character.

I'm 17% in on All I Love and Know and I feel like I'm watching (or reading) a made-for-TV movie. I like the characters -- they're well-drawn -- but the story is just not working for me. I think I'll bail on it.

Finished

The Aviator's Wife. Eh, it was okay.

A Circle of Quiet. Loved this rambling little book. Madeleine L'Engle is truly my literary soulmate.

Cadillac Desert. Fantastic! Really opened my eyes to the history and politics of western water management.

Up next:

To Kill a Mockingbird. Revisiting a childhood favorite.

Colorado: South of the Border. Delving into the history of my adopted state.

I just finished reading The Price of Civilization by Jeffrey D. Sachs and learned quite a bit. He titled the final chapter The Millennial Renewal and he seems to have great hope that the members of that cohort can and will make the changes needed for the nation and the planet. I sure hope he is right.

Next on my non-fiction is Dark Pools about financial transactions that are deeply hidden by Wall St. traders.

I'll also work and finishing some fiction on the kindle that I've started but put down for this latest round of non-fiction borrowed from the llibrary.
