Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania (Erik Larson)

Excellent. Got annoyed when my train pulled into the station because I had to close it.
Excellent book,

A funny but spot on bio of the hilarious and seriously dedicated chef whose French cooking show and books changed the way we think of and cook French cuisine.

She had an exciting life and was a delight to watch and her books awesome in the way they explained and taught French food prep.

TY...I added it to my list. Sadly my library doesn't have it.

I just started Eleanor Oliphant last night, and can see it will be an effortless read.
Don't quite know what to make of it yet, but it's a good one!!
One a disturbing read and then a light one. Both are good. Enjoy.

I also added Messing with the Enemy: Surviving in a Social Media World of Hackers, Terrorists, Russians, and Fake News....another one my library here doesn't have

I finished Where the Crawdads Sing which I thought was excellent. I really loved Kya, aka The Marsh Girl. She has lived by herself since her parents left at a very long age. She learns of nature and that becomes her life. It's a coming of age story about a girl who is left on her own and shunned by those in town. The books starts out with a murder and goes back and forth.

I also read The Moscow Deception (The Guardian #2)by Karen Robards. This was an OK mystery and an easy read but not addictive.

I just started Trail of Broken Wings by Sejal Badani. I think this one will be very good. A father goes into a coma and his daughters come together in his time of need. The three sisters and the mother have all been abused, beat, by him while living with him. It is told from the point of views of each of the women and how they dealt with the abuse.
BTW, it is on sale today for $1.99.

ylisa7: Frequently my library does not carry books I want, and I use Overdrive for electronic access. After a search at the bottom they list books that match the search that they do not carry, and a "Recommend" option. The majority of the time they buy it if recommended. Sometimes it takes a while, but they send you a note.

Merry Christmas!!

I frequently use the recommend feature most often for books recommended by the BBC and CBC.

OMG I could not put down the book- Eleanor Oliphant. Ylisa---
To be honest, although it was uplifting, I shed more tears reading that book than I can remember doing in a long time. I adored it. I just thought it was so brilliantly well done- and I was so sure I had read more by the author but apparently I am quite confused as it looks like this is her first book?
I am seriously blown away by it.

I am going to digest it and I am pretty sure I will start My Name is Mary Sutter.

Tigerlilly The Library Book is a future read for one of my book clubs as is Nine Perfect Strangers.
An American Marriage was last month's pick, and I may be one of the few people who did not see the brilliance in it. It was good but I see so many people raving about it and I just didn't feel it. Oh well.

I just started reading Letters from Max: A Book of Friendship by Sarah Ruhl and I'm already 31% in. It's a super-fast read, obviously. So far it's so beautiful, and I know that it's going to be so sad at the end.

During downtimes at the kids' house, I was able to read what I had already started. "Wicked River"by Jenny Milchman. It was very good and I want to get her other novels hoping for a repeat. Hope you all had a very readable holiday !

I just finished "Educated" by Tara Westover. It's this next generation's Glass Castle, written not nearly as well, and less believable. Best Seller, but when you easily google her family on Facebook there are some questions. Why does her father look completely normal when she said his face was basically burned off and he had no mouth? I'm really struggling to believe this story although Tara Westover has made the rounds of all the news shows/talking heads programs.

I'm halfway through The Secret Life of Bees, which is a short book and so far quite enjoyable. A coming of age story of a young white girl in the south in the 1960's who runs away with her older black maid when they both encounter trouble. Quite good.
