My book club just finished "My Antonia" and we all loved it. Willa Cather was a marvelous writer and her descriptions of the hardships experienced by our forebears living in harsh conditions are both interesting and wondrous. Without giving a lot of background, her characters are well drawn and interesting. This is not a book I would have chosen to read by myself, but I'm so glad that one of my fellow book clubbers (we're called the Page Turners) chose it. 256 pages.
I really loved that book. I can't remember how I started reading it other than recalling that it wasn't really my idea. But WOW it was excellent.

I have to get cracking, I had I Heard You Paint Houses on reserve and will pick it up today. Hopefully it'll be an easy read or I may have to catch Janis a second time as they won't let me renew a new book with other holds on it.
As a side note my library had an audio CD available titled 18 Essential Songs by Janis. CDs from the library don't come with liner notes but it seems to have some early versions of some popular songs that are perhaps a little less polished than later versions, it's been in the car CD player for a week or so and I'm really enjoying it.

Reading this book is really making me want to download some of her music, that's for sure.

Yeah, I'm not too far in but quickly decided it's not getting postponed, I will finish it before it comes due. She definitely had a way of connecting with her audience.
Just reading a Bahamas Fodor's Travel book, Bahamas is definitely on my bucket list!
If any of you know any good pirate fiction books let me know!
I just love pirates and just finished Noble Pirates by Rima Jean which was so beautifully written and had me shook til the end!
Just finished "Where the Crawdads Sing" I loved it.
I fought reading that book because I tell myself I don't like fiction - and I often don't. But dang it, this was a really good, evocative book. I enjoyed every minute of reading it.
