Fifty Shades of Grey.
Horrific writing. Terrible editing. Every page was exactly the same, with the idiotic "heroine" swearing up a storm and channeling her Inner Goddess.
Bloody awful.
Probably not very fair, but I could not get through 51 pages of Kate Atkinson's "Life After Life" (my 50-page rule). I feel terribly about it because it's so popular and profound etc. etc. And I actually spent money on the hardcover bc I was so excited.
Most of you have mentioned "classic lit," so I will just mention a more recent "literary" novel that I've seen on a lot of you-absolutely-must-read-this-book lists (which I find stunning): Barbara Kingsolver's The Poisonwood Bible. So many people raved about it that I tried to get into it, but I was bored out of my mind.
Yes!! What is it with Kingsolver? To her credit she can start out okay and I especially liked the beginning of "Prodigal Summer" but then it just goes on...and on..

Unfortunately, I read more than 50 pages before I quit. I had high expectations for this book and was very disappointed.
