His work is classed as urban fantasy so I hope you will enjoy reading his books.
I liked Little Country.

I just finished Karen Marie Moning's Fever series. I liked it for the most part, although the Hollows series is still my favorite. I did get tired of the sex scenes/sexual inuendo, but just flipped forward a few pages.

I'll second the Dresden Files. You will HATE Harry Dresden in the first book. You'll find he is growing on you in the second, and by the third you will be hooked.

High action books:
The Joe Ledger books by Jonathan Maberry
The Rot and Ruin series, also Maberry. Don't let the YA classification fool you, it means no sex, but still a lot of grisly violence.
The Repairman Jack books by F Paul Wilson

If you like your vampires and shapeshifters with a sense of humor:
The Undead series by MaryJanice Davidson
Kate Conner: Demon Hunting Soccer Mom

If you like your books with hot sex:
The Black Jewels Trilogy by Anne Bishop
The Kushiel books by Jacqueline Carey

Less Sex, more romance:
The Poison Series by Maria V Snyder
The All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness (Discovery of Witches)

More medieval high fantasy rather than urban fantasy:
The Paksennarrian series by Elizabeth Moon
Obviously the Game of Thrones books by George R R Martin
