Wow, that's a disturbing statistic. But since DH reads only one or two a year, I guess I believe it.

I read a couple/three a week, thanks to my online library and Kindle (so I can read in the dark). So I guess that's around 100--150 a year....at no cost.

Mostly mysteries of about 400 pages. No romance, lol.

I read the "heavy stuff" when I was younger. It's just too much for me now.

I mostly read library books; my history shows that I have checked out 1180 books since July of 2019. But I don't finish every book, so call it a thousand books in 4.5 years.

I think I'm safely within the top 1%.

Seriously. I don't see how they can really say how much of a reader you are based just on how many books you completed. I mean, the Brandon Sanderson novels for instance - sheesh! My son is a voracious reader, but the great majority of them are very very long.

I don’t count how many books I read but I love to read. It’s been that way my entire life and I watch very little tv.

I would say it's close (as far as my being in the top 1 percent), as I order and read an average of four books a month.

Well, I'm safely in the top 1%. I finish a book every two days or so. But, I also read three books at a time - usually fiction, history/biography, and something techie, though the formula isn't set in stone. I have the attention span of a.squirrel on meth, so having multiple books going at a time keeps me from getting bored with reading altogether. At least, that's what I tell myself.

Also, Kindle Unlimited is possibly my favorite subscription ever.

Wow! Some impressive stats here in the thread and from the linked article. I'm guessing I read maybe 20-30 books a year, I feel like an illiterate compared to some of the posters here.

Very detailed data on the WAPO link...Amazon owns WAPO and is also the world's biggest book seller, so no surprise there.
Not loving that the author used the term "dead tree books", which still outsell digital/audio books. Lame jab there.

One of the charts defined "How do you organize your books?"
I organize mine by genre and/or subject matter. I've always had a 'book problem' so a few years ago I downsized to a single smaller bookshelf, and whatever doesn't fit on it gets donated. Right now I have a growing stack on the floor beside it, so my plan isn't quite working. LOL

I call that "read and release".

I actually own fewer than twenty printed books (plus loads more e-books, which don't need dusting)

My number was 66 read and finished books for the year!

From my latest library receipt I saved $9,711.48 since I started using this particular library (Oct. 2020)

ain't that the truth. and being able to access many of my library's books online helps a lot too.
